In anticipation of travel

How much can I scribble, witter, rant or rave?
As I circumnavigate the globe along the beaten track.
Will I be alert to what I see?
Will my attention span all that I need it to?
I intend to be entranced by the new world
By the water in the plughole spinning down the opposite way
By the bright heat of Alice Springs,
Or the serene beauty of Milford Sounds.
Or would it be the Ancient world that will captivate?
The temples of Giza in the desert
Or Angkor Wat in the lush tropical swamp.
If only my notebook were a sponge
That absorbs more than just the stress of
Baggage, security clearance, blocked ears and lagged brain
To be able to find what I’ve lost.
